A woodpecker strolling around on the ground…
This morning in the park, I was surprised to see a woodpecker feeding on the ground. It was unusual to spot one away from the trees, but there it was-pecking the soil with quick deliberate movements and the striking plumage caught in the light and splash of red on its head. It seemed completely at ease, focussed on whatever tasty morsels it had found. Watching quietly, feeling lucky to witness something so unexpected. A quiet moment of wildlife wonder at the welfare park. (Dave Priestnall)
