Park Wildlife Update – A Busy Morning at the Park by the River!
As some of you may know, we have a stoat trap set up in the park near the river to help manage the local ecosystem. This morning brought quite a bit of unexpected wildlife activity!
At around 3 AM, the trap was triggered. When it was checked at 5 AM, we found a surprise guest inside—not a mink, but a very plump hedgehog! Thankfully, it was unharmed. The little visitor has been gently placed in a shady spot and left to wander out in its own time. It seemed quite content, if a bit sleepy!
To add to the morning’s charm, a muntjac deer was also spotted in the park, accompanied by her tiny babies. A beautiful reminder of the wonderful wildlife we share this space with.
The trap will be reset this evening, with extra care taken to avoid catching any more unexpected guests.
Thank you to everyone who helps keep an eye on the park and its furry residents. Let’s continue working together to protect both our native species and the balance of our local environment.

The mink traps/boxes are owned by The Waterlife Recovery Trust. We have two boxes one in our wildlife end that incorporates the dock river and one in Ramsey.
Both boxes are looked after by Dave Priestnall who receives alerts via the agency when the trap is activated.
